Itinerary

Welcome to Peru. We'll transfer from the airport to our accommodations to check in, then head straight to Cusco's main square to kick off our walking city tour, learning about the history, culture, and richness of this country.

We'll set off early for the Maras Salt Mines, more than 3,000 salt pools that have been worked since Inca times. From there we'll continue to the Ollantaytambo archaeological site and wrap up with a buffet lunch in Urubamba, the heart of the Sacred Valley.

We'll depart at 4:30 am for Cusipata for breakfast, then head to our trailhead to hike up to Rainbow Mountain, reaching 5,020 m above sea level at the summit. We'll return to Cusco around 7 pm.

Breakfast in Mollepata, then a hike up to Humantay Lagoon, a crystal-clear lake ringed by glaciers. A 2-hour descent brings us to camp in time for tea and dinner.

The most challenging hike of the Salkantay Trek: we reach 4,632 m, flanked by the snow-capped peaks of Humantay (5,917 m) and Salkantay (6,271 m). Several hours of descent bring us to camp in Chaullay.

A 6-hour hike surrounded by local flora and fauna, learning about Andean coffee along the way, until we reach Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) to rest up before the next day's visit.

Welcome to Machu Picchu! A guided tour of about 2 hours through the citadel at 2,490 m, followed by free time to keep exploring before heading back to Cusco by train.

Group farewell and transfer to the airport (about 20 min from the hotel) to catch your flight home.

Reviews & Testimonials

The expedition in Peru was an unforgettable experience. The stunning landscapes you come across along the way are unique. But what I liked most was the chance to disconnect from routine and reconnect with myself.

My experience with Wild & Wonder on the Peru trail was excellent, wonderful, and deeply enriching for my spirit and my energy. From start to finish, everything was perfectly organized.

We did the Salkantay Trek, and it was so much more than a hike: it was a deep, magical, and revealing journey. I felt a very special connection, both with the people and with the energy of the place.

The hikes were challenging, but every view, every sunrise in the mountains, and every laugh shared with the group made it totally worth it. The team was amazing, organized, and passionate.

It was great to connect with people who have the same eagerness to experience another culture, food, and new places. Wild & Wonder helps you with whatever questions you have and supports you through the process from start to finish.

Have questions?

Be between 25 and 45 years old, with valid travel documentation (a passport valid for at least 6 months from your entry date into the country). We'll guide you if you need to arrange a visa.

Given the nature of our adventures — constant transfers, packing and unpacking every day — we ask you to travel light: a small backpack or personal item, plus a 10–12 kg carry-on. If you prefer to bring a larger suitcase, any extra storage or transport cost is on you.

Message us on WhatsApp using the "Reserve your spot" button and we'll walk you through the form and deposit. As soon as your spot is confirmed, we'll send you the next steps.

You reserve your spot with $100 USD, which counts toward the final package price. The remainder is split into up to 6 payments on fixed dates, and must be paid off no later than one month before the trip. Cash payments are not accepted.

You book your own flights, but you'll get guidance from your experience coordinator once you've reserved your spot, including the recommended arrival airport. If you decide to fly in before or after the group dates, any extra costs are on you.

An experience coordinator follows up with you remotely before the trip (flights, visas, prep). A W&W ambassador travels with you in person and leads the group, and expert local guides join you on tours. The rest of the group is other travelers on the same date.

Our packages are built around well-located 3- or 4-star hotels, in twin rooms (2 beds) shared with another group member. Some packages include different nights, like camping or igloos, noted in the itinerary.

Wild & Wonder is part of Travelers With Cause, a responsible tourism company registered since January 2018, with registration before Mexico's Secretariat of Tourism. We don't travel to countries with political or social instability. Travel insurance is mandatory, and we can help you find one that fits your needs.
