About this trip

China is a country that blends millennia of history with landscapes that look like they belong on another planet. In 10 days we cover four completely different cities: Beijing, cradle of empire and home to the Great Wall and the Forbidden City; Zhangjiajie, with its iconic sandstone peaks that inspired the world of Avatar; Chongqing, a megacity built between mountains, rivers, and fog; and Chengdu, home of the giant pandas.

This trip mixes ancient temples with impossible views, high-speed trains with cable cars over cliffs, and the energy of China's megacities with the calm of its national parks. Ideal for anyone looking for a destination that still feels like a genuine discovery.

We schedule our departure dates in low season, aiming for the best possible weather at every stop on the itinerary — so you can take in the Great Wall, Zhangjiajie, and the rest of the route at ease, without high-season crowds.

Itinerary

We land in Beijing, the capital that was the heart of dynasties for over 800 years. A private transfer takes us from the airport to the hotel to check in and rest from the flight. In the evening we get together as a group to meet each other and talk about what's ahead: ten days across four completely different cities.

We step through the gates of the Forbidden City, the largest palace complex in the world and home to 24 Chinese emperors over nearly 500 years. We walk its courtyards, throne halls, and imperial gardens with a guide who shares the stories behind every corner. In the afternoon, time is free to explore Beijing at our own pace.

A full day dedicated to one of the seven wonders of the modern world: the Great Wall of China. We walk one of its best-preserved sections, past watchtowers and views that disappear into the mountains. It's one of those experiences that feels different from how you imagined it — bigger, more impressive, more real.

We fly to Zhangjiajie, the region that inspired the floating landscapes of the movie Avatar. On arrival we head up Tianmen Mountain, famous for its Heaven's Gate — a massive natural cave — and its glass skywalk clinging to the cliffside. Not for anyone afraid of heights.

We explore Zhangjiajie National Park, with its thousands of sandstone pillars covered in vegetation that seem to float in the fog. We walk trails, cross suspension bridges, and take a cable car up for a view from above — the very mountains that were the real-life inspiration for Pandora, the world of Avatar.

We take the train to Chongqing, one of China's biggest and least-known cities: a megacity built literally between mountains, rivers, and fog, with buildings that rise straight out of the cliffs. On arrival we check in and rest up for the day ahead.

The morning is free — it's worth getting up early to see the famous train that runs straight through a residential building in the middle of the city, one of Chongqing's most curious postcards. Afterward we head out on a city tour: its viewpoints, the Yangtze River, and the energy of a metropolis literally built in layers, one on top of the other.

We travel by train to Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province and one of the most culturally alive cities in the country. On arrival we check in at the hotel and the afternoon is free to explore its streets, its spicy food, and its pace — much more relaxed than Beijing or Chongqing.

The day is dedicated to meeting Chengdu's true stars: the giant pandas. We visit their conservation sanctuary, where we can watch them eat, play, and rest in an environment designed to feel as close as possible to their natural habitat.

We wrap up this trip at exactly ten days — not one more — since the transit visa we enter China on has a 240-hour limit. We head home with a full camera, tired legs, and the certainty of having seen a country that feels completely different from everywhere else.

Frequently asked questions

Have questions?

Be between 25 and 45 years old, with valid travel documentation (a passport valid for at least 6 months from your entry date into the country). We'll guide you if you need to arrange a visa.

Yes. This itinerary is designed around China's free 240-hour (10-day) transit visa for Mexican travelers — that's why the trip lasts exactly 10 days, not one more. If you hold a different nationality, we'll help you check what type of visa applies to you before you book.

Yes — several apps and services we use every day (WhatsApp, Google Maps, social media) don't work inside China without a VPN. Before the trip we'll share a guide with the apps you do need to have downloaded (like payments and local maps) and how to set up a reliable VPN, so you arrive fully ready.

Given the nature of our adventures — constant transfers, packing and unpacking every day — we ask you to travel light: a small backpack or personal item, plus a 10–12 kg carry-on. If you prefer to bring a larger suitcase, any extra storage or transport cost is on you.

Message us on WhatsApp using the "Reserve your spot" button and we'll walk you through the form and deposit. As soon as your spot is confirmed, we'll send you the next steps.

You reserve your spot with $100 USD, which counts toward the final package price. The remainder is split into up to 6 payments on fixed dates, and must be paid off no later than one month before the trip. Cash payments are not accepted.

You book your own flights, but you'll get guidance from your experience coordinator once you've reserved your spot, including the recommended arrival airport. If you decide to fly in before or after the group dates, any extra costs are on you.

An experience coordinator follows up with you remotely before the trip (flights, visas, prep). A W&W ambassador travels with you in person and leads the group, and expert local guides join you on tours. The rest of the group is other travelers on the same date.

This package stays in well-located 4-star hotels, in twin rooms (2 beds) shared with another group member.

Wild & Wonder is part of Travelers With Cause, a responsible tourism company registered since January 2018, with registration before Mexico's Secretariat of Tourism. We don't travel to countries with political or social instability. Travel insurance is mandatory, and we can help you find one that fits your needs.
